White Knoll High School is a comprehensive, 4-year high school, grades 9-12, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the South Carolina Department of Education. White Knoll High School (WKHS) is located in the Red Bank community of Lexington County, South Carolina. WKHS opened in August of 2000 with an enrollment of about 1300 students. Enrollment in August of 2014 had grown to about 1950 students. Currently, it is the largest high school in Lexington School District One.
In 2008, WKHS was named a Red Carpet School and a year later was given the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School Award. WKHS’s Department of Guidance and Achievement is a Recognized ASCA Model Program. WKHS was awarded the Palmetto Gold Award for General Performance in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2010 WKHS was awarded the Palmetto Silver Closing the Achievement Gap Award and in 2011 and 2012, WKHS was awarded the Palmetto Gold Closing the Achievement Gap Award. We are currently a South Carolina Green Step School and received an award in 2013 for taking steps to be environmentally responsible.
An instructional plan is offered at WKHS that gives each student the opportunity to pursue individual goals. WKHS offers a comprehensive program of studies which includes course offerings in language arts, foreign languages (German, French, Latin, Spanish), mathematics, science, social studies, drama, choral and instrumental music, NJROTC, physical education, art, computer science, general vocational, natural resources, occupational and technical education. In addition, courses are offered for a student-produced yearbook, newspaper, weekly television show and daily TV announcements.
WKHS has active DECA and HOSA organizations that compete on the state, national and international levels. Every year students win state, national and international awards. The WKHS DECA program had 27 award winners at the 2013-2014 S.C. State DECA competition and three finalists in the 2013-2014 International DECA competition. Two students placed in the top 10 in the world at the DECA International Convention in Atlanta. In addition, the WKHS Virtual Enterprise Team had 10 winners at the 2014 S.C./Southern Region Trade Show, and drafting students took first place in both Technical Drafting and Architectural Drafting at the 2014 SkillsUSA State
Two teams competed at HOSA Conferences, WKHS and the Center for Public Health teams. In 2014-2015 WKHS HOSA had three second place winners and one $500.00 scholarship recipient at the state Health Occupations Students of America competitions. WKHS Center for Public Health HOSA had one first place winner and one $500.00 scholarship recipient.
WKHS also excels athletically. In football, baseball and basketball, the Timberwolves are very competitive on the state AAAA level and have many dedicated fans. The WKHS Baseball Team won the 2010 AAAA State Championship. . The WKHS Marching Pride band is the 2010 and the 2011 AAAA State Marching Band Champions.
